The magnificent blend of women into the realm of corporate endeavors is not just a matter of equality, rather is a strategic imperative that propels companies towards enhanced efficiency and autonomy.
With the recession and the post-COVID shift, 2024 marks a year of transformative change in corporate hiring strategies. There is an ongoing debate about companies to start hiring at par with gender equality. However, there have been few companies who have been following a diverse culture for a while now. Some are listed below.
Accenture – Voted as Number One in Refinitiv’s Diversity and Inclusion Index, has a firm dedication to implement and familiarise a culture of belonging and equity. EY – Being one of the Big Fours the number of women in top executive management positions has increased by more than 20%. McKinsey – Started a return to office program for those women who want to return back from maternity leaves, or any career break typically aiming to support and facilitate a smooth transition back into the workforce.
According to Refinitiv’s Diversity Inclusion Index, which calculates the most diverse and inclusive workplaces across 100 big organizations – Accenture came up on top for having a firm dedication to implement and familiarise a culture of belonging and equity. Meanwhile, EY, one of the big fours, has increased its women workforce by more than 20%. And, McKinsey – Started a return to office program for those women who want to return back from maternity leaves, or any career break typically aiming to support and facilitate a smooth transition back into the workforce.
However, turning our heads towards tech, according to a study by The World Bank, women make less than a third of the world’s workforce in tech-related fields. Marking the new year with new opportunities, there are companies keen to hire women on priority in the year. Some of these include Microsoft, IBM, Cisco, Intel, Google, Facebook (Meta), Adobe, Salesforce, Uber, LinkedIn (Microsoft subsidiary)
On the flipside, research conducted by women in tech stated, that women still account for only around 26% of people working in IT today. This however is an improvement from the figures of 19% in 2019.
As highlighted by Deloitte in recent research, “many large tech companies have made public committing statements to improving their gender diversity, which includes increasing women in their technical and leadership rank standards.
Meagan Eisenberg, COO of cloud security company Lacework stated, “Initiatives and networking events, like AWS Cloud Women, give leaders the chance to talk candidly about their journeys in the tech industry, and the challenges they’ve faced. This is an important step in helping reduce barriers, having honest conversations about the state of the industry, and encouraging participation from the next generation.”
We have seen a lower trend of tech companies hiring women, especially in STEM. However, it looks like, by the end of 2024, the verdict might differ. Welcome to a new era where women are not just leaders rather they are the driving force steering companies towards unparalleled heights of achievement.
